BILLY'S STORY

Senior boy billy

Billy was found on a property in Bandera Texas where he was living out his years confined in a 10x10 pen, with no bed and only an empty doghouse for his shelter. His fur was so matted he had dreadlocks on his tail and was desperately in need of a trim. His hair has been growing for so long that it is so thick its causing skin issues for him and had twigs and mud all over his body intertwined in his coat. He is now roughly 10-12 years old experiencing life for the first time. When Billy first came into our Rescue, he received what was probably his first bath in years, rode in a car for possibly the first time, and got to experience the joys of daily walks. Stopping to sniff anything and everything he wanted, and pee on all the trees! Billy’s first vet visit was a rough wake up call for us. We discovered he has severe arthritis that makes it painful for him to walk or bear his full weight on his hind legs. He also has incredibly inflamed and irritated skin due to the massive amount of fleas he had been living with his whole life. We also received the unfortunate news that his growth we thought was a mole could possibly be cancerous. If this is the case we want to give him the love he didn’t receive for the first decade of his life for whatever amount of time he has left. We also discovered he has a tape worm is 11 pounds under what the vet considers a healthy weight for his breed. Despite this Billy is the sweetest boy there is and never wants to leave your side. He is so calm, quiet, and gentle. Billy deserves a better life than the one he has been dealt. There are so many other senior dogs on Mama Roses property that need to be rescued to give them a fighting chance. After the vet saw Billy, they were impressed with how well he was doing considering all the obstacles he had in front of him.

We can’t wait to shower billy with all the love and affection he so desperately deserves. No matter the outcome of his biopsy Billy will get to experience what its like to be a dog in a loving home. If you would like to help us sponsor Billy’s medical costs please click the link below!
